What if a startup could not only train the next generation, but also reshape an entire workforce?

That’s the ambition powering Fearless Adventures Academy, the visionary training provider that walked away from the 2025 Northwest StartUp Awards with three major honours: Education & Training StartUp of the Year, the StartUp for Good Award, and the region’s overall StartUp of the Year. Where most training schemes stop short, Fearless goes the distance, offering real-world digital skills at no cost, with a direct route into the industry.

At its core, the academy addresses a problem that’s holding countless businesses back; the widening gap between skills and employment.

With traditional routes falling short and many would-be learners locked out by cost or circumstance, the founders of Fearless Adventures Academy, decided to act. Their answer? A fully-funded academy built in and for Greater Manchester, delivering hands-on training straight from the pros, and backed by real hiring partners.

From day one, they set out to reshape what a startup can do in education and training. The courses are free and led by industry experts, supported by real employers, with a clear focus: helping learners turn new skills into meaningful employment. It’s a model built not just to teach, but to open doors and it’s already making a real difference.

They bring a game-changing, ambitious mindset and wholly people-focused, a key reason why they didn’t just take home one trophy at the 2025 Northwest StartUp Awards, but three.

“There’s a real skills gap for digital marketing that is constantly widening,” says co-founder Dominic McGregor, who scaled Social Chain AG from 3 to 300+ people before launching the Academy. “Our mission is to reverse this trend by upskilling the next generation of ambitious talent.” he added.

It’s a mission grounded in reality. Across the UK, founders repeatedly cite talent shortages as one of their biggest growth blockers. The Fearless team, including Rachel McDonald, former MD of Dentsu North, and Amy Wild, former CCO of Northcoders, has been on both sides of the problem. They've built global agencies, launched in-house training programmes, and now they’re funnelling all that knowledge into an academy built for impact at scale.

By the end of 2025, they aim to retrain 1,000 people, and thanks to funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Skills Bootcamps, they’re making that promise a reality.

What makes their model work is how deeply integrated they are with the industry. Their tutors have worked with brands like Aldi, The Hut Group, Unilever, and more. Their employment team runs CV workshops, career days and hands-on interview prep so it’s not just teaching skills, but turning them into real-world outcomes.

It’s no wonder they stood out in a region known for producing standout talent.

From supporting career returners and school leavers to helping small businesses build stronger teams, Fearless Adventures Academy is delivering transformation.

And the story isn’t over yet.

This September, Fearless Adventures Academy will head to the UK StartUp Awards National Final at Ideas Fest, where they’ll go up against the country’s best new businesses. We can’t wait to see them there.
